ARMENIA LENDING HELPING HAND TO TURKEY
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 13. (SNARK). Today, at 07:00 pm local time an
Armenian aircraft with 20 rescuers and two doctors - specialists
of disaster medicine - will leave for Turkey from Yerevan's
Zvartnots airport for rendering help to those who suffered during
the earthquake. It is the second time Armenia is trying to render
assistance to Turkey after devastating earthquakes. First time
the Armenian rescuers left for Turkey after earthquake in Izmit,
on August 17.

CONSTRUCTION OF GORIS-STEPANAKERT, STEPANAKERT-SHUSHA ROADS
COMPLETED
STEPANAKERT, NOVEMBER 12.(SNARK). Today, the opening of the last
10-km section of the Goris-Stepanakert, Shusha-Stepanakert road
took place. The total length of the road connecting Armenia with
the Mountainous Karabakh made 65 km. The construction of the road
cost $10 mln and was financed by the Hayastan All-Armenian fund.

ARMENIA'S PRESIDENT SIGNED DECREE ON APPOINTMENT OF NEW MEMBERS
OF THE GOVERNMENT
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 13. (SNARK). Today, late in the evening the
Armenian President Robert Kocharian signed a decree on
appointment of new members of the Armenian Government. The post
of the Minister for operational issues, which was lead by Leonard
Petrossian who was killed October 27 by terrorists, is
dissoluted. Under the degree of the President, General-Major
Karlos Petrossian, who was taking the post of the head of Chief
Investigating Department of the Interior Affairs of Armenia, is
appointed to the post of the Minister of National Security. The
post of the Minister of Interior Affairs is headed by Hayk
Haroutunian, who is the first Deputy Minister of Interior Affairs
and Commander of interior troops of the republic. The post of the
Minister of Trade and Industry of Armenia is headed by Karen
Cheshmaritian, who worked in the structure of the Ministry of
Trade and Economy and was taking the post of deputy Minister of
Industry, Trade and Tourism. Actually no other changes in the
cabinet of Ministers of Armenia took place.

DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IN ARMENIA FOLLOW RIGHT PATH, COUNCIL OF
EUROPE'S SPEAKER ON ARMENIA DEMETRO VOLCIC ANNOUNCED
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 10. (SNARK). "Democratic processes in Armenia
are on the right road. Otherwise we would postpone the visit to
Armenia, which was planed a month ago," the Council of Europe's
speaker on Armenia Demetro Volcic announced at today's meeting
with Speaker of the Armenian parliament Armen Khachatrian.
According to him, the Oct 27 act of terrorism has nothing to do
with democratic processes in the country. He stressed that
nothing has changed in the approaches of the Council of Europe
towards Armenia's entry into it.

IN CURRENT YEAR NUMBER OF TOURISTS INCREASED BY 50% COMPARED WITH
1998
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 9. (SNARK). According to Deputy Minister of
Industry and Trade of Armenia Armen Petrossian in the current
year the number of tourists who visited Armenia increased by 50%
compared with the last year showing. If in 1998, 24,500 persons
visited Armenia, for the fist half of this year this showing made
17,600 persons. In 1998 the $23.9 mln made the revenue from the
sphere, and for the first half of 1999 the payments to the budget
made $17.8 mln. At the same time Mr Petrossian noted that no
single dram was earmarked from the budget for the development of
tourism. For the sake of comparison, UK spends 1 bln pounds for
these purposes.

AMERICAN CONGRESSMEN INCREASED VOLUME OF ASSISTANCE FOR ARMENIA
MAINTAINING SANCTIONS AGAINST AZERBAIJAN
WASHINGTON. NOVEMBER 8.(SNARK). The House of representatives of
the US Congress voted for adoption of a new version of the law on
international assignments for FY 2000, according to which the US
financial assistance to Armenia will reach "not less than $ 89.67
mln". The US Congress has to accept the new version of the law as
the President has vetoed the previous draft decreasing the total
size of the US international assistance. This time as well as
earlier members of the House of representatives of the US
Congress voted for maintenance of the 907 Section Freedom Support
Act. This legislative act prohibits the US direct aid to
Azerbaijan until it lifts illegal blockading of Armenia and
Mountainous Karabakh. Analysts from Washington consider that the
new version of the law on international assignments in FY 2000 is
the complete victory of the Armenian lobby in the US. Noteworthy
that this time none of the representatives of the White House or
US State Department called for abandoning of the US sanctions
against Azerbaijan. Either Bill Clinton or Madlen Albright made
statements underling the necessity of increasing the US
multilateral assistance to Armenia, strengthening and expanding
the Armenian-American cooperation.
