PERNOD RICARD FRENCH COMPANY INCREASES VOLUMES OF INVESTMENTS TO
YEREVAN BRANDY PLANT
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6.(SNARK). In 1999, the Pernod Ricard French
company invested $5 mln to the development of the production at
the Yerevan Brandy plant, which belongs to the company, the
President and the General Director of the Yerevan Brandy Plant
company Pierre Larretche said. Pierre Larretche also informed
that other $10 mln were spent to the purchases of grape in 1998-
1999. In 1998, the Yerevan Brandy Plant purchased 16,100 tons of
grapes for the price making 114 drams per 1 kg, in 1999 - 18,100
tons per 90 drams.

ARMENO-RUSSIAN NEGOTIATIONS ARE PROCEEDING IN STRICT
CONFIDENTIALITY
MOSCOW, NOVEMBER 5. (SNARK). The Armeno-Russian negotiations
which started today in Moscow are proceeding in strict
confidentiality. Neither the Russian side nor the members of the
Armenian delegation, namely Armenia's President Robert Kocharian,
Minister for Foreign Affairs Vartan Oskanian, and Minister for
Defence Vagharshak Haroutyunian, have yet made any commentaries
or announcements regarding the conducted negotiations. Local
observers pointed out that this format of the Armenian delegation
may most probably testify to the unity of political and military
leaders of Armenia, and stability of the internal political
situation in the Republic.

HEYDAR ALIYEV: IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MADNESS TO LAUNCH NEW WAR
BAKU, NOVEMBER 5. (SNARK). The settlement of the Karabakh problem
is not possible without mutual compromises, the President of
Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev stated on the November 4 meeting with
the ex-President of Bulgaria Jelu Jelev. He also stressed that
the Azerbaijani opposition stands against possible compromises
and stands for the military settlement of the conflict. And "it
would have been a madness to launch a new war", the President of
Azerbaijan said.

ANOINTING AND ENTHRONING OF 132-ND CATHOLICOS OF ALL ARMENIANS
HELD IN MOTHER SEE OF HOLY ECHMIADZIN
YEREVAN. NOVEMBER 4.(SNARK). Today the solemn ceremony of
enthroning and anointing of the 132-nd Catholicos of All
Armenians Garegin II took place in the Echmiadzin Cathedral of
the Armenian Apostolic Church. Armenia's President Robert
Kocharian, Prime Minister Aram Sargssyan, Karabakh's President
Arkady Goukassian, speaker of Karabakh's parliament Oleg Yesayan,
representatives of different Christian Churches participated in
the ceremony.

PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA APPOINTED ARAM SARKISSIAN TO POST OF PRIME
MINISTER OF ARMENIA
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3. (SNARK). The President of Armenia Robert
Kocharian signed a decree on appointing Aram Sarkissian, the
director of the Ararat concrete plant and the brother of the
former Prime Minister Vazgen Sarkissian, killed on October 27.
The candidacy of Aram Sarkissian was suggested by the Unity bloc,
the members of which held a meeting with the President of the
republic. Aram Sarkissian was born in 1962, is married and has
three children - two daughters and a son.

ARMENTEL TRANSFERRED FIRST $3.2 MLN TO STATE BUDGET
YEREVAN. NOVEMBER 3.(SNARK). ArmenTel telecommunication company
of Armenia transferred the first $ 3.2 mln to Armenia's state
budget in accordance with the decision of the court made as a
result of petition of Ministry of State Revenues. On the whole,
ArmenTel company, communication monoplosit of Armenia, should
transfer $ 8.25 mln to state budget by the end of 2000. This sum
was formed because of nonpayment of profit tax for selling of
parcel of shares by former shareholder of ArmenTel TWRH American
company to present shareholder of 90% of ArmenTel's shares, OTE
Greek concern.

ARMEN KHACHATRIAN BECAME NEW SPEAKER OF ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2. (SNARK). Today, during the special session
of the National Assembly of Armenia, Armen Khachatrian, the
member of the People's Party of Armenia, created by ex-Speaker
Karen Demirchian, deputy of the Unity bloc was elected to the
post of the Speaker of the National Assembly. 103 deputies voted
for the candidate and 3 deputies voted against. The new Vice
Speakers are - the deputy head of the Republican party of Armenia
Tigran Torosian (98 voices) and the representative of the
People's party Gagik Aslanian - 103 deputies voted for him and 2
- against.

ARARAT GOLD REFINING ENTERPRISE WILL BE EXPANDED
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2. (SNARK). Additional capacities of refining
enterprise, founded on the base of Ararat gold-refining factory
will be set into operation February 2000, the Director General of
the Armenian-Canadian Ararat gold mining company Keith Foulkner
informed Snark. According to him, works on expansion of the
enterprise will cost $4 mln. Meanwhile its productivity will
increase from 25,000-30,000 Troy ounce (31.1 grams) of gold per
year to 80,000 ounce. After the enterprise is enlarged ore from
Sotk and Meghradzor mines will be processed as well.
