PATRIARCH PRESIDED OVER HOSPITAL ANNIVERSARY


ISTANBUL, 31 May 1999 (Lraper) -- His Beatitude Patriarch
Mesrob II of Istanbul and all Turkey presided over the 167th
Anniversary celebrations of the Surp Pirgic Armenian Hospital
in Yedikule, Istanbul, on 30 May 1999, second Sunday of
Pentecost.

The Patriarch officiated at the Divine Liturgy in the Hospital Chapel
which was full of believers who had come from various parishes
of the metropolis. The Patriarch delivered a homily in which he
emphasized the significance of social service in public and community
life. He said that good works are visible signs of our faith, signs
of our love for God and our fellow human beings.

Following the liturgy, a festive luncheon was served in the
gardens of the hospital, with more than 500 guests attending.
A program which consisted of an annual progress report,
poetry and songs was successfully realized. Patriarch
Mesrob concluded the program with a final speech in which he
blessed the efforts of the Chief Surgeon, the medical corps,
the hospital board and the benefactors of the hospital.
