Dear All,
As you might know, the terrible earthquake has struck the eastern province Van of Turkey. It is mainly a Kurdish dominated and very poor city. I wanted to start fund-raising with the Turkish Association at USC but they insisted on donating the money to the government. However, I would like to collect donations for a civil organization which does not discriminate people according to their race or religion. I am wondering if you would like to help us (me and some of my friends) to collect donations. It would also be a great chance to establish peace and show people how to be humanitarian.

I have been searching the whereabouts of Freya Akcelik since having moved to Washington DC area. I posted another one of my periodic messages the week before, sort of a complaint about the fact that practically most of the "OIA Announcements" I receive - I have been on the mailing list for quite a while - are obituaries. I knowe taxes and death are two things we can count on especially in United States. But i am getting downright disaffected by the amount of obit announcements I get as a daily dose. I received five such obits the day after my last unpublished message on this very subject. Most of my posted messages over the years asked reasonable questions, or requested explanatives, by anyone who might have been reading my diatribes. Fat chance! I am convinced that this part of OIA's well-intended website is a DOA (dead-on-arrival) issue. On the positive side, I was able to help two people who posted messages requesting help and connected with one of my elementary school classmates in Australia! Wnderful coincidences, but exceptions to the general issue! The obits issue is really a downer. Not a day passes by without a geoup of OIA obit notification. I recently read an analysis of OIA's Guestbook activity by one of the prominent search engines. Their evaluation of this site is categorized very low. The audience is also classified as middle-aged males who have nothing else to do but forward each other jokes and power point presentations of beautiful images created by God knows who and for what purpose. Where are we headed gents, and ladies, who might be reading these announcements by intent or by mistake?

I am Jean-Louis Tourikian. I am a descendent of an Armenian family in the Diaspora in France. I now reside in Canada. I am trying to locate persons with the Ghambarian Surname in Istanbul. My mother was Satenik Ghambarian the daughter of Malcolm Ghambarian and Manouchak, Mouradian also known as Manouchak Gasparian. My mother's first cousin was Yervant Ghambarian of Istanbul and her uncle was Moucher Ghambarian of Istanbul. We lost track of the family in 1955. If any Ghambarian, which may be related to me, are still in Istanbul or elsewhere in Turkey, I would very much like to contact them.

I ran into an interesting sounding request to sign up a petition to "defend the Western Armenian Language", with a submission deadline of 6/30/2011. The information requested was somewhat in detail and without clues as to what the database thus to be established was going to be used by the "originators of this petition". Even though the subjectmatter is of vital importance to me as a fluent speaker and user of the Modern Western Armenian, I find the manner in which this petition was formulated and posted questionable. Is our beutiful Armenian being massacred by Turkish speaking Armenians of my hometown of Istanbul, or should I, as a Mekhitaryantzi, triple my age-old concern of how we are contributing into our cultural demise, aka, Cermag Chart? Who are the originators of this campaign and who is collecting the information via this petition, and for what purpose?

Over the years I posted messages requesting information or suggesting some kind of action OIA could take for the benefit of the members who might be reading guestbook postings. I've never received a response from anyone which makes me think if anyone bothers to read this portion of OIA's otherwise colorful website. Yes, I receive obits (mahazt) quite regularly of people I don't know but read them and utter "Asdvadz hokin lusavore" as a gesture of civility. I wonder if this excellent communication service OIA provides for its membership at large (I am in Virginia, not even an OIA member - not yet) is really worth the effort put into it by website administrators. Speak to me. I am a good listener.

I hope OIA will videotape and post the planned meeting of the Bolsahay Community with Co-Patriarchate candidate Bishop Chouljian on the OIOA website. For those of us who have no chance of meeting the candidates and practically have no idea who they are (except Archbishop Karekin Bekdjian) and what will they bring to ameliorate current situation of upper chaos in the pending election. Most of us Bolsetsiz know well what powers will be the final and assertive adjudicator in this case.
