His Holiness Karekin II Sends Telegrams of Condolences to the
President of the USA, the Mayors of New York City and Washington DC
On September 12, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and
Catholicos of All Armenians, has sent telegrams of condolences on
behalf of the Catholicosate of All Armenians, the Brotherhood of
the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the entire faithful Armenian
nation, addressed to His Excellency George Bush, the President of
the USA, the Mayors of New York City and Washington DC, on the
occasion of terrorist acts perpetrated on New York City, Washington
DC and Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, to express
compassion to the American people and innocent victims' families
and relatives, in particular.
In the telegram of His Holiness addressed to the President Bush it
is particularly said:
"We are profoundly shocked by the terrorist acts realized in
America with unprecedented impudence. Together with you and the
faithful people of America we feel deep sorry for the thousands of
victims of the tragedy.
The way of violence is not the future of mankind, and we join the
numerous honest souls throughout the world, who condemn such acts
of violence, and pray for peace everywhere and goodwill in people."
Upon the pontifical order of His Holiness, on the coming Sunday,
September 16, following the Divine Liturgy, a Requiem Service will
be held at the Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin for the repose of the
souls of the victims of terrorism.
His Holiness is in constant telephone contact with the Primates of
the Eastern and Western Dioceses of the Armenian Apostolic Church
of the USA. Armenian Prelacies' staffs continue to realize their
work as usual.
