Divan-SSC Appeals for Prayer ISTANBUL, 04 June 1999 (Lraper) -- The Supreme Spiritual Council convened an extraordinary meeting today in Holy Etchmiadzin, Armenia, called by His Grace Archbishop Karekin of Yerevan. The Patriarchs of Jerusalem and Istanbul could not attend due to short notice. The meeting was chaired by His Grace Archbishop Vatche of Los Angeles. The main item on the agenda was the health of His Holiness Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos Karekin I of all Armenians. Meanwhile, President Robert Kocharian of Armenia also visited the Patriarchal Palace and visited Catholicos Karekin I who is suffering from cancer. The President afterwards said, "The Catholicos is really ill." The President also met with the bishops participating in the SSC. The SSC concluded its meeting with an appeal to the Armenian people worldwide to pray for the Catholicos. Back to News Home     Back to OIA Home
